About the concurrent art exhibition at GearBox Gallery:
Glossy Dream, features paintings by Christine Ferrouge and torn paper collage by TaVee McAllister Lee. This exhibition reveals glimpses of the internal fragments of a girl’s imagination. Complicated expectations, history, cultural adornments, and advertising surrounds and influences the optimistic young woman-to-be.
Beneath Ferrouge’s painted surfaces is a world of imagination and serious introspection. Each female character has an intense psychological presence. TaVee McAllister Lee’s work references modern-day advertising, idealized beauty and luxury, at times juxtaposed ironically to the harsher realities that simultaneously exist in the world.
This thought-provoking exhibition touches on what lies beneath the gloss and sheen held out as a promising future. An exploration of the American girl psyche, it is simultaneously startling and hopeful.
