Artist Reception: Gina Gaiser – Revisiting Oakland

Manna Gallery is thrilled to announce Revisiting Oakland, a post-pandemic photographic survey of urban landscapes by Gina Gaiser. Drawing from her Bay Area roots, Gaiser’s work focuses on the evolving dynamic between human activity and the environment, especially in areas experiencing change. Using digital techniques reminiscent of comic strips or film frames, Gaiser constructs visual stories that prompt reflection on our interactions with our surroundings. She explores the intricate relationship between daily routines and our deeper identities, uncovering the hidden beauty within ordinary city scenes.

Gina Gaiser (she/her) is an Oakland-based artist working primarily in photography and digital media. In her work, she is most comfortable creating through experimentation. She sees technology as a collaborator and plays with techniques and processes until she gets the desired result. Gaiser photographs Oakland on a daily basis, isolating moments of visual significance in the forgotten and ordinary, sometimes following a captured image into a rhyming sequence or pattern. She draws inspiration from everyday life, exploring how humanity reshapes landscapes, navigates environments, and builds connections. Her work delves into the implied geometries of urban settings and elevated roadways. Gaiser received her BA in Studio Art from the University of California, Santa Cruz and studied printmaking and art history for one year at Il Bisonte School of Graphic Arts in Florence, Italy. After returning to the Bay Area she co-founded the artist collective Ben Dunne Presents producing pop-up art events. She received an MFA from Mills College in Digital Media, Video and Sculpture, was a Member Artist at GearBox Gallery and is currently at Manna Gallery in Oakland.
