Hallowed / Hollowed the works of David Polka: Closing Show

David Polka is an Oakland-based artist whose practice moves fluidly across painting, drawing, murals, sculpture, and installation. His work is less about fixed images and more about building environments—layered, textural worlds that ask you to look longer, feel deeper, and sit inside contradiction.

Working with a palette that often feels both grounded and unsettled, Polka explores the tension between what is held sacred and what has been worn hollow over time. Surfaces are built up, scraped back, and reworked—revealing traces of process that mirror the ways we carry memory, identity, and place.
