Glossy Dream Featuring: Christine Ferrouge and TaVee McAllister Lee

January 11 @ 11:00 am - February 10 @ 5:00 pm

Free

GearBox Gallery presents Glossy Dream, featuring paintings by Christine Ferrouge and torn paper collage by TaVee McAllister Lee. This exhibition reveals glimpses of the internal fragments of a girl’s imagination. Complicated expectations, history, cultural adornments, and advertising surrounds and influences the optimistic young woman-to-be.

Beneath Ferrouge’s painted surfaces is a world of imagination and serious introspection. Each female character has an intense psychological presence. TaVee McAllister Lee’s work references modern-day advertising, idealized beauty and luxury, at times juxtaposed ironically to the harsher realities that simultaneously exist in the world.

This thought-provoking exhibition touches on what lies beneath the gloss and sheen held out as a promising future. An exploration of the American girl psyche, it is simultaneously startling and hopeful.

About Christine Ferrouge:
Ferrouge grew up in Minnesota and fell in love with painting at a young age. She studied art in Florence, Amsterdam, and Spain, and holds a BFA in painting from the University of Evansville, Indiana. Recent honors include the deYoung Museum Open Exhibit, solo show at Gray Loft Gallery, and featured exhibitions at GearBox Gallery. Ferrouge is a teacher, curator, and promoter of the arts, who contributes passionately to her art communities including: GearBox Gallery, Los Angeles Art Association, and Kipaipai Fellows. Ferrouge’s studios are in Oakland and Los Angeles.

About TaVee McAllister Lee:
Lee grew up mostly in Oklahoma, with a stint in Laos as a little girl which impressed upon her both the fragility and tenacity of life along with a keen awareness of the stunning disparities of existence occurring simultaneously around the globe. After earning a BFA from the Kansas City Art Institute, with a double major in painting and printmaking, she moved to the San Francisco Bay Area where she painted for many years and now explores more esoteric and unconventional work in her art practice.
