Open on First Friday – Nemo Gould: Friend or Faux

Transmission Gallery is a great place to go on First Fridays! With two galleries in the building this is a free fun place to meet your friends, and check out the artwork before heading out for a cocktail or meal on the First Friday of the Month. Check out GearBox Gallery, street level at 770 West Grand Ave, and be sure to come upstairs to Transmission Gallery, an unexpected find for those who haven’t come in in person yet! Transmission Gallery will be open till 8pm for the First Friday Art Walk, August 1st, with concurrent exhibitions on view including Friend or Faux, featuring work by Bay Area sculptor, Nemo Gould. Imbued with an inventive sense of humor, Gould’s kinetic sculpture invites interactive engagement and a sharp recognition of its eclectic origins. Obsolete industrial parts, abandoned machinery, gears, dials and housings achieve new presence deftly remade with electronics and wiring in pieces like Parallax and Counter Intuitive.

Consider Aura: completed in 2022, materials include a gas arc lamp enclosure, telephone dynamo, panel meter, fuel gauges, numeric indicator lamps, door plate, dough mixing blade, magnifying lenses, pot handles, wood, steel, and brass precisely fitted together. With a good turn of the crank, Aura lights up with a lively thought-glow despite the frowny face. Other interactive pieces respond with sound or motion. Walk through and check them out!
