Transmission Gallery will be open till 8pm for the First Friday Art Walk. With two galleries in the building there’s plenty of art to see. Meet your friends for a fun free evening looking at art, and maybe even collecting a piece for yourself. Upstairs at 770 West Grand Ave is Transmission Gallery with two concurrent solo exhibitions on view plus more art in the gallery Office. Downstairs is GearBox Gallery, also open till 8 pm for First Friday.
On view in a special showcase is Entrance to the Void, a collection of 4″ x 6″ pinhole photographs by Timofey Glinin and Anastasia Shubina printed on shimmering silver paper, elegant and affordable!
Project Statement:
Entrance to the Void is a pinhole photography series created across the Bay Area, New York, and Boston. Using one of the oldest photographic techniques—capturing images through a tiny pinhole without a lens—the project engages with the ephemeral and the invisible. Through the use of camera obscura, the authors explore both urban and natural environments, revealing their ghostly essence and the transparency of human presence. Pinhole photography renders the visible invisible: silhouettes of people dissolve into shadows, while rays of light emerge and take on form. Entrance to the Void is a visual meditation on the desolation and haunting stillness of American spaces.
Artists’ bio:
Timofey Glinin and Anastasia Shubina are photographers and film directors based in San Francisco. Specializing in documentary and fine art photography and film, their work has been featured in over 100 exhibitions and festivals across Europe, Asia, the Americas, and Australia. Their projects have been presented at prestigious institutions such as the Centre Pompidou and the Musée du Quai Branly – Jacques Chirac in Paris, the McCord Stewart Museum in Montreal, and F³ — Space for Photography in Berlin, and have received numerous awards. As members of the Bay Area Photographers Collective, their practice explores themes including alternative photographic techniques, anthropology, contemporary science, and futurism.
