Oakland First Fridays | Abolition Comix’s 10th Anniversary Block Party

This Oakland First Friday, we’re taking inStudio outside and joining our friends at Abolition Comix to celebrate their 10th anniversary with a block party at 25th Street and Telegraph Avenue.

From 6:00–7:30 PM, Empowerment Avenue Executive Director Rahsaan “New York” Thomas will join Ear Hustle co-hosts Earlonne Woods and Nigel Poor for a special panel celebrating a decade of Abolition Comix and Ear Hustle, alongside members of the Abolition Archive/Teleway 411 community. The conversation will be moderated by Vina Sinfurrs of the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence.

Throughout the evening, Empowerment Avenue will be tabling outside inStudio, sharing our work and bringing out a selection of new original artwork and prints by currently and formerly incarcerated artists available for purchase.

The block party runs from 5:00–9:00 PM and will also feature special performances from the Formerly Incarcerated People’s Performance Project.
