Open on First Friday – PINT SIZE 3

Open till 8 pm on October 3rd, Pint Size 3 is a great show to see during Oakland’s First Friday Art Walk this week. With two galleries in the building this is a free fun place to meet your friends and check out the artwork before heading out for drinks and a meal. Stop in at GearBox Gallery, street level at 770 West Grand Ave, and then head upstairs to Transmission Gallery, an unexpected find for those who haven’t come in in person yet! Now in its third iteration, Pint Size 3 is a celebration of small-scale artwork that proves size is no limitation when it comes to creativity. Featuring over 250 pieces by more than 172 artists from across the country — from Arizona to New Jersey, Texas to Tennessee, Oregon to Florida, and of course, right here in California — this expansive exhibition brings together an extraordinary range of sculpture, painting, collage, drawing, and assemblage.

Each work measures no more than 7 x 7 inches for wall-mounted pieces or 8 inches high by 7 x 7 inches for free-standing works, inviting viewers to engage with the intimate, the intricate, and the unexpected. Materials range from the traditional — bronze, ceramic, glass, watercolor, oil and acrylic — to the delightfully surprising: potatoes, rhinestones, gum balls, fur, nails, and more.

So much fun to see in person! Minimal, maximal, thoughtful or playful, Pint Size 3 is not just an exhibition of small art — it’s a large-scale invitation to slow down, look closer, and rediscover the joy of detail, craftsmanship, and curiosity.
