Karl X. Hauser: A Map of Our Catharsis
October 3 @ 12:00 pm - November 16 @ 5:00 pm
FreeTransmission is pleased to announce its 100th exhibition, A Map of Our Catharsis, featuring selections from Hauser’s recent explorations in 3-D printed sculpture.
Cathartic, indeed, Hauser’s figures appear to grapple with the grittier emotions that emerge from both the personal and collective experiences of trauma and anticipation of an unpleasant, unwelcome future looming on the horizon, if not already at our doorstep. One might recognize grimaces, abject despondence, stark recognition and glee even, with a sense of vulnerability and even possibly hope underlying the ever so human stances of the personages assembled here.
Freed from the confines of traditional sculpture making, Hauser’s 3-D prints still resonate with his previous body of cast metal and resin work marked by surface textures such as Styrofoam and burlap. Now joined by pieces exuding a sense of inflated puffiness, past series, such as Balloon Man and the cars, find new play while characters wielding electrical parts make their appearance in this show of Hauser’s new work.
Also on view at Transmission, concurrent exhibition William Rhodes: TRIBUTE, on view in the Small Space of the gallery through November 9th.
Please join is for the Opening Reception and 100th Exhibition Party, Saturday, October 5th from 1-4 pm.
