Though visually distinct\,\ntheir practices converge around shared concerns of process\, perception\, and the dynamic\nrelationship between structure and spontaneity.\nRachel’s paintings are created through a process of dripping paint onto canvas\, resulting in\nrichly layered surfaces that explore texture\, color\, and the balance between control and\nchance. The series is inspired by her daily encounters with the landscape surrounding her\nhome in San Francisco’s Richmond District—a quiet\, often fog-laden neighborhood bordered\nby Golden Gate Park\, the Presidio\, and Ocean Beach. Her work reflects the shifting moods of\nthis coastal environment\, particularly the San Francisco Bay\, the Marin Headlands\, and the\nGolden Gate Bridge as they emerge and recede through fog. The recurring acts of covering\nand revealing in these paintings echo the rhythms of the landscape itself.\nScott Idleman’s work similarly inhabits a space between intention and intuition. His grid-based\ndot series celebrates intersections: science and art\, nostalgia and futurity\, the organic and the\nartificial\, isolation and community. Drawing from his family’s heritage of textile-making\, Idleman\nmerges meticulous patterning with imagined skyscapes and aerial perspectives—an enduring\nfascination shaped by the view from above. Based in San Francisco’s Mission District\, his\npractice is informed by the neighborhood’s vibrant energy and colorful mural culture\, translating\nurban vitality into structured yet atmospheric compositions.\nTogether\, the works in Atmospheric offer a meditation on place\, process\, and\nperception—inviting viewers to consider how environment\, memory\, and material intersect to\nshape visual experience.\nAll are welcome to join us for Atmospheric events! Bring your questions! \nMore About Rachel Major\nOriginally from Toronto\, Canada\, Rachel is a graduate of The Ontario College of Art and Design\n(OCAD) as well as the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design (NSCAD) and received an MFA\nfrom Mills College in Oakland. Rachel has been living and working in San Francisco since 1994.\nIn her work Rachel explores our complex and often fraught relationship with food using a\nvariety of media including sculpture\, painting\, and photography. Her work has been exhibited in\nCanada\, France and the U.S. In September 2016 she was selected as an Emerging Artist at\nMarinMOCA in Novato\, California. Rachel works with San Francisco Art Education Project\,\nLEAP as well as SFUSD teaching art to children in San Francisco public schools.\nMore About Scott Idleman\nIdleman received a B.F.A. from the Kansas City Art Institute in graphic design with minors in\nfibers\, painting and photography. He implements a visual language of simple mark-making to\nconvey impressions of moods and dreams as a form of meditation to connect with others and\nself.

DESCRIPTION:Three Girls\, a solo exhibition with new paintings by Christine Ferrouge \nGallery Hours: Thursdays\, Fridays\, and Saturdays noon-5pm; and by appointment\nExhibition Dates: January 22\, 2026 – February 28\, 2026\nClosing Reception: Saturday\, February 28\, 2026\, 3-5pm \nCalifornia painter\, Christine Ferrouge makes paintings about the social and intrapersonal complexity of girlhood. Inside these paintings\, her daughters and their friends have been growing up before our eyes. Now the girls are older. They are not little girls. They are teenagers. Ferrouge’s teens are not exactly what you might expect. They are not the weak\, crazy\, second class we often negatively associate with “teens”. They have the strength\, dignity\, and psychological presence that she has always shown us in her paintings of girls. They are still the “women-to-be” that you could always see simmering below the surface of these determined and confident characters. \nThese works are a mother’s view of her teens: their lounging around\, napping frequently\, and the quiet social understanding between the them. You can feel the unique and tight knit bond-especially connecting the girls- and the looks they give you when you catch them in that sacred space. “When you enter the gallery and stand in front of one of these scenes\, you are present in their space\, but you are not part of their circle.” –Ferrouge\nThis is a well established thread in Ferrouge’s work. After the Costume Party (2019)\, Desert Picnic (2020)\, After the Fires (2021)\, Watching/Waiting (2023)\, and Girls in the Mirror (2024) all give the viewer the feeling that you are in their space. The artist first observed exclusivity and girl power in her daughters and their little friends when they were just 5 and 6 years old\, which inspired The Huddle (Ferrouge\, 2016).
