February 15 - March 21

Migration has affected humans from the beginning of time. This show MIGRATION offers several ideas of migration: David Burke’s’ paintings remind us of human and animal migration due to water pressures such as pollution, floods, droughts, and more. His work thinks about migration in the context of political conflict, corruption, and job loss. Pamela Dernham’s newest work “America the Beautiful: Economic Migration” looks at waging war on socioeconomic class and economic displacement. Cheryl Derricotte’s new work “The Return” maps drawn data on the New Black Migration/Return of Black to the south.  Gordon Glasgow presents a sculptural metaphor for migration. An installation of walking houses by Todd Laby personify the act of migration, and allow the viewer to ponder the gestures and possible narratives that surround these anthropomorphic forms.  Walter James Mansfield’s abstractions conjure the environmental impact on migration, of humans and birds, whereas Jos Sances’s scratchboard drawing convey similarly with specificity of migratory birds and fleeing refugees.  Painter Arleene Correa Valencia brings her life experience as a registered “illegal alien” in paintings that question what is required to be a legal human.
