Oakopolis Gallery presents a show of new paintings and prints from Oakland born artist, Lauren McIntosh. Lauren studied art at the University of California at Berkeley. Before that, she studied art with family members and artist friends. Firstly with her grandmother Grace who taught her to draw three things at the age of 3 or 4: a particular geometric shape, a particular figural shape, and a particular puzzling shape. After that she spent her early childhood years staring at reproductions in art books of paintings by Francisco Goya and Hieronymus Bosch. She had her first museum show at about the age of 5.  Even so, for her, it has not always been easy being an artist. It is a love/hate kind of endeavor. Love what one is doing during the process and hate the result or hate the process, agonize over it and love the result…rarely love the process and love the result. In the end though, none of this matters as there was no other choice.

This is McIntosh’s second show at Oakopolis Gallery.  All of her paintings are painted with gouache on paper or on wood panel.
