About The Crucible
The Crucible inspires creative exploration and expression through welcoming, hands-on arts education and experiences for people of diverse ages and backgrounds. As an innovative hub built around the industrial arts, The Crucible is a catalyst for individual growth and vibrant community connections.
Each year, haute couture is turned on its ear, Crucible-style, with the spectacular flaming fashion show, Hot Couture. The Crucible will present a unique flaming fashion show, featuring dazzling runway performances and special guests, across four nights: February 16-19.
The 2017 themes are inspired by the boundary-defying showmanship of Prince: perpetual creativity, bold vision, radical artistry, and iconic fashion. A team of artists have recycled industrial materials into a lantern-lit, dark forest stage, upon which local models will showcase wearable art from the Bay Area’s most innovative designers.
In addition to nine dazzling runway collections on a jaw-dropping stage, Hot Couture 2017 will pull out all the stops, featuring performances by Oakland vocalist Netta Brielle and turntable queen Pam the Funkstress. Bay Area radio personality Sterling James will also be on the runway, reprising her role as host. And Crucible founder, Michael Sturtz, will present a fire-filled grand finale called “The Origin of Love.”
Hot Couture features the highest levels of artistic collaboration with fire effects, music, clothing as sculpture, sculpture as clothing, aerialists, and spoken word performances. A one-of-a-kind event not to be missed!
