September 6 - December 30

Vessel Gallery pops up in downtown Oakland at The Alice Collective!  NEW works by Barry Ebner, Chaves Smith, Peter St. Lawrence, and William Schwob.

The center of gravity is the balance point of an object, also expressed as the point where all the mass appears to be located. Mathematically, center of gravity can be defined as the weighted average of all point masses in an object. Culturally where do we as humans find our center of gravity?  How do we navigate shifts, and changes? Subtle movement causes a reaction to find balance, a new order manifests, no matter where a shift occurs – whether internal, or external like community, city, or home, etc. What conditions offer us a stable  rooted sense to exist within our center of gravity? What causes us to lose or shake our center of gravity? Without center of gravity, certainty and balance are disrupted. From our center of gravity we can take flight, take risks, we can let roots take hold, we can navigate life with assurance. “Center of Gravity” offers an opportunity to explore these nuances.
