“Capriccio”: New Mixed Media Collages by Wayne Armstrong
January 10 @ 12:00 pm - February 15 @ 5:00 pmFree
Manna Gallery is pleased to open the new year with Capriccio, an exhibition of recent mixed media collages by Oakland artist Wayne Armstrong. The exhibition opens Friday, January 10 and continues to Saturday, February 15. A reception for Wayne happens on Saturday, January 11, from 2 to 4 pm. Wayne will be present to greet gallery visitors and discuss the ideas and issues behind this latest body of work.
“The art works in this show have evolved from my passion for playing with graphic imagery, textures, color and storytelling”, says Wayne. “They reference cubism, dada, surrealism and my childhood love of comic books. I think all of the pieces have a story to tell and, hopefully, that story is unique to each viewer.”
Mr. Armstrong had parallel careers as an educator and practicing artist for over fifty years. He managed to achieve steady and continuous growth as a fine artist, despite the daily rigors of public school education. He developed many contacts with gallerists and designers and his work is found in numerous collections throughout the United States. Now retired from teaching, he works daily in his Oakland studio.
