February 8 - March 16

Gray Loft Gallery presents Art of the African Diaspora, an exhibit of work by Bay Area artists that includes abstract painting, photography and sculpture. This celebration of artists of African descent is a satellite exhibit of the Richmond Art Center. In 1997 two artists – the late Jan Hart-Schuyers and late Rae Louise Hayward – founded The Art of Living Black after their realization that Black artists were not being equitably represented in contemporary art spaces. “We’re just a group of artists that share the same dream. We’ve decided to do something about it.” said Hart-Schuyers. For over two decades The Art of Living Black has created opportunities for hundreds of artists; offering important professional opportunities and developing new audiences for their work. The title of the exhibit changed this year to the Art of the African Diaspora.
