[email protected], The Folk Art of Leon Kennedy – First Friday Reception
February 4 @ 3:00 am
Free
“I try to reach the truth and light that is within each of us.” With this fervently articulated mission in mind, Leon Kennedy – a self-taught artist – paints so that we may see the beauty, goodness, and spiritual power in each other.
Kennedy renders his images on every imaginable surface. They are frequently enlivened with glitter, or textural components such as frayed rope, beads, or confetti. Anything that fires his imagination. All this gives Kennedy’s colorful compositions a surprising and engaging expressiveness.
Originally from Houston, Kennedy lives in Oakland. He has participated in solo and group exhibitions in such notable institutions as the African American Museum of Dallas, the American Visionary Museum in Baltimore, and the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of American Art in Washington, DC.
Join us in welcoming Leon Kennedy to [email protected] on Friday, Feb. 3rd. Refreshments will be served.
