Artist Talk and Mixer with K Pontuti at UMA Gallery
March 9 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Join UMA Gallery on March 9th for a candid conversation about gender identity, the autobiographical artwork chronicling their unique journey as a queer artist/teacher and the role cats have played along the way. As a starting point, “Identity affirmation is a critical part in affirming other people’s identity.” K Pontuti. Navigating this landscape takes courage and support. The talk and mixer will be from 7 – 8:30 pm
K Pontuti is a Trans, transmedia artist and filmmaker based in northern California. As a professor and department chair at the University of the Pacific, they foster accessibility to the greater conversation about Trans identity, and share their experiences moving though this space.
Their solo show, Icky Kitty Fuzzy Sweater playfully exposes their vulnerabilities throughout their coming out process. Pontuti’s utilization of pop icons such as Charlie Brown (Charlieze Brown), Star Trek, cats as a metaphor, the personification of a disposable shaver and more deftly serve as an access point to a deeper discussion.
We invite you to join us for this compelling conversation.
The talk will take place in the Small Chapel exhibition room inside the old Mosswood Chapel, home to UMA Gallery. Please use the side entrance on 37th St.
