WHAT IS OAKLAND ART MURMUR?
Oakland Art Murmur (OAM) introduces visitors to Oakland’s visual arts movement in a welcoming and inspiring environment. While visiting arts venues, OAM goers become educated about different styles of creative expression, trends in contemporary art, and starting a collection. Participants gain an appreciation for sculpture, painting, textile and all manner of artistic media, including the street art in local neighborhoods.
DO YOU ORGANIZE FIRST FRIDAY?
OAM organizes a monthly citywide First Friday Art Walk. Another organization, Oakland First Fridays, runs the street festival on Telegraph Ave in Uptown.

IS THE FIRST FRIDAY ART WALK CANCELED IF THE STREET FESTIVAL IS?
OAM’s First Friday Art Walk is rain or shine! The Street Festival is run by another organization and its schedule does not impact the First Friday Art Walk.
IS THERE MORE TO OAM THAN JUST FIRST FRIDAY?
Yes! OAM hosts several monthly public programs in addition to the First Friday Art Walk. There is the self-guided Saturday Stroll and our guided third Saturday Walking Tour. Check out our Special Events page for other programs.
HOW CAN I LIST MY ART EVENT ON YOUR WEBSITE?
OAM arts venues have the ability to post events on our website and Facebook page. Has your space held at least three curated shows — you have? Great, you should submit an application to join our community. Our Gallery Committee, made up of OAM board members and colleagues in the arts community, will review it to see if you meet our requirements. ARTISTS OFTEN WRITE TO US ASKING, “HOW DO I GET MY WORK SHOWN AT ART MURMUR?”
The answer is that Oakland Art Murmur does not show artists. Art Murmur’s member galleries do show artists (cumulatively, OAM’s member galleries showcase over 1260 artists in nearly 300 exhibitions a year, presenting them to audiences in the thousands). However, the individual galleries fund those shows themselves, and so it is they who select who they are going to make that investment in. To be shown in any of the Art Murmur galleries, you would need to develop a relationship with the gallery or art venue and ask them to represent you, just like at any other gallery in the world.
WILL YOU CURATE A SHOW AT MY VENUE?
OAM does not organize art exhibitions. If you curate your show, let us know and we will help get the word out!
