OAM Objective: mobilize a volunteer base of individuals willing and able to support the growth of the art community and cultural foundation of Oakland.
General Volunteer Description:
Get Involved with the Oakland Art Murmur! Oakland Art Murmur (OAM) is seeking highly motivated and skilled individuals passionate to support and promote the burgeoning arts and cultural movement in Oakland. Time commitment is dependent upon role and workload, but generally fluctuates between 2-7 hours per week. Individuals must be able to attend monthly volunteer meetings and other meetings with OAM staff, as needed. OAM supports spectacularly diverse art venues and we’re looking for a stellar crew to support them.

Photographers and Videographers
Driven and experienced freelance Photographers and videographers needed to document OAM on First Fridays and Saturday Strolls in order to provide visual material for marketing and promotion of the OAM galleries, their respective websites and various social media sites, as well as the monthly E-zine. The photographer must have their own equipment and be able to capture the ‘OAM experience’ in art galleries and on the street of downtown Oakland. Volunteer must be able to meet with the OAM Director and Photo Editor as needed in Oakland, CA. Photos may be used in personal portfolio.
Photo Editor
Creative, experienced and dependable candidate to assume the role of volunteer Photo Editor. This position will entail the following duties: organize, edit and manage photo library for OAM and associated galleries on SmugMug, work w/ the photographer(s) to identify gaps to capture OAM experience, communicate with other volunteers concerning needs for social media, website and Ezine, contribute constructive feedback to OAM marketing strategy. Work load will fluctuate 2-3 hours / week; heavier work will follow the First Friday events when images need to be uploaded and processed. Photo Editor will collaborate with the OAM Director, Ezine Editor, and Social Media Strategist.
Event Support
OAM is seeking volunteers for events throughout the year. This is a great opportunity for short term volunteering with OAM. Most events require volunteers for set up, support during the event, and break down. Some events are on weeknights and will be located throughout Oakland. Volunteers with flexible schedules are ideal, but not required. We are looking to have a roster of volunteers to call on when event support is needed, and will give as much notice as possible. Volunteers must be punctual, reliable, and familiar with Oakland Art Murmur and what we do. Please email the basic volunteer application and include why you love OAM!
