Tour Exhibit “Absence” with Artist Cyrus Tilton

Saturday, March 9 , 2-3:30PM

Vessel Gallery 471 25th Street, Oakland www.vessel-gallery.com

Meet Cyrus Tilton, and tour his show to learn about what inspired this body of work.  We’ll learn more about specific sculptures included in Absence.  Cyrus, a master of a range materials as demonstrated in his exhibited artworks at Vessel Gallery, will discuss how process informs selected mediums chosen for his artworks.

In the wake of a very intense creative period I have been left with a quieting of the loud and direct inspirational cues that I had been accustomed to. It seems the more I try to focus my mind on being present and engaged, the more abstract and loose that focus becomes. This detachment from my foundation has left me with the unsettling feeling of absence. My latest works are an exercise in working with and making peace with absence.”   - Cyrus Tilton
[Tilton uses his anatomical knowledge and expert craftsmanship to good effect, but he also knows how to use material and process poetically: "It's about knowing when to quit ... when to keep your hands off. ... Once you start ... to mold it like life, it dies."] - DeWitt Cheng
