OAM has been running a free monthly art walk, known as The Art Murmur, since 2006. On this evening, 21 member galleries and 9 mixed-use venues are open to the public and hold artists receptions from 6–9 pm.

Since summer of 2012, Oakland First Fridays (a city, CBD, and community volunteer-run partnership) has been hosting an eight-block street festival in Uptown on Telegraph Ave between 19-27th Streets (5-10pm), with live music, food trucks and other vendors. If you like a festival, you know where to find it.

If you are more interested in avoiding the crowds and getting in to see the ART, here is our advice:

• Visit Uptown early in the evening (5-7pm) and then head down the corridor to enjoy the Mid-Town, Old Oakland, and Jack London venues: they have some wonderful shows that you will be sorry to miss, and the further south you go, the less crowded it is.
• Use Broadway, not Telegraph, to access 26th, 25th and 23rd street galleries.
• Instead of coming on First Friday, come for Saturday Stroll: EVERY SATURDAY we have 17 galleries and 8 mixed-use venues open from 1-5. Many galleries also hold special events on Saturdays, including receptions, artists talks, concerts, and tours. Just check the Saturday Stroll Schedule
